ROCKY'S PEDIGREE

CAREER Over the years, the players, leagues and even the home ice have changed for the RoadRunners, but one thing has always remained constant – Rocky RoadRunner. Phoenix’s favorite fowl has been entertaining Valley hockey fans ever since he first skated out onto the Arizona Memorial Coliseum ice decades ago. And now with the ECHL RoadRunners, the veteran mascot’s breaking out his blades once again for game nights at the team’s new frozen pond – US Airways Center. Whether he’s roaming the ice during intermissions or mingling with the home crowd, it’s Rocky’s job to get all the fans behind the RoadRunners. So if rooting for the home team isn’t your speed, it soon will be thanks to the feathery giant decked out in the ‘Runners jersey. Even though Rocky doesn’t travel with the team, he does occasionally leave the chilly confines of his home ice at US Airways Center. The mascot is available for appearances at schools, hospitals and charity events by calling 602-379-7542.

PERSONAL Contrary to rumors of a beak augmentation, Rocky credits his new look to healthy living and a good base tan from his short-lived retirement...On March 3, 1973, was responsible for starting “the wave” that led to the ‘Runners game-winning goal en route to the team’s first-ever championship...Was a standout tailback while attending Brand-ice University...Has a distant cousin who’s made a career of terrorizing a hapless coyote just outside of Albuquerque.

Height: 6-3 (With the mohawk: 6-6)

Weight: Feather

High School: Franklin D. Roost-evelt (Coop-erstown, N.Y.)

College: Brand-ice University

Experience: 40 seasons
